Need a tasty breakfast donut or a sweet snack?
Visitors to the Smoky Mountains in East Tennessee will find a number of excellent bakeries
that make some of the best donuts you’ll ever have.
1. The Donut Friar
Located in The Village shopping area in downtown Gatlinburg, The Donut Friar is a favorite destination for many Smoky Mountain visitors. This bakery opens at 5 a.m., and the aroma is irresistible. The gourmet fillings melt in your mouth. Bavarian cream, glazed, cake, coconut, and cinnamon sugar donuts are just a few of the favorites.
But The Donut Friar has even more. They create a variety of other pastries, cinnamon bread, cappuccinos, lattes, and espresso. The Donut Friar only accepts cash, but they do have an ATM for a $2 fee. This qualifies you for a free $2 drink on the house.
2. Cider Bar at the Apple Barn
The Apple Barn Village is a unique shopping experience in the Smokies with its own apple orchard. The Cider Bar at the Apple Barn, is where you can sample some of the best apple cinnamon donuts. They are made with fresh apples, and are rated second to none in taste test. The Apple Barn also boasts fried apple pies, apple dumplings, apple butter muffins, and, of course, apple cider.
3. Mad Dog’s Creamery & Donuts
Mad Dog’s is another tremendous place to get donuts in the Smoky Mountains. This shop offers unique donut flavors, including caramel with sea salt sprinkles, red velvet with cream cheese icing, peanut butter and jelly, and Devil’s food cake with peanut butter icing.
For an unforgettable experience, top your donut with a scoop of made from scratch, homemade ice cream!
